Tooele

Family history center fair

The Tooele Family History Center at 751 East 520 North will be having their annual fair Nov. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Forty classes including, researching family names, pedigree software and computer basics will be taught. Please call the center 435-882-1396 for an order form and a list of classes and their times.

3D archery league

A 3D indoor animal target archery league starts Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at Deseret Peak Complex indoor arena through February. It’s sponsored by the Stansbury Oquirrh Bowmen and the Tooele County Deseret Peak Complex. All levels of shooters welcome. KDK9’s obedience class

KDK9’s Basic Obedience Class for all ages of dogs and handlers will start a six-week class starting Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. Classes at Cal Ranch, $89 per dog. One free training lead included. Week one — dog psychology (no dogs, two hour class). Weeks 2-6 — learning the basics (one hour class). Private training for aggressive and/or special issues also available. Proceeds help support KDK9’s Search and Rescue Dogs and the Animal Concepts Foundation, both non-profit. For more info and registration call: 435-837-2134.

Holiday Craft Workshop Boutique

Everyone is invited to attend the Holiday Craft Workshop Boutique sponsored by the Tooele City Arts Council and the Arts and Craft Center at the Tooele Army Depot. Over 10 different projects will be offered and will all cost $10 or less. The workshop will be held on Friday, Nov. 13 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. t0 4 p.m. at the Tooele Army Depot. We are asking that everyone pre-register by Tuesday, Nov. 10 to assure that there will be enough supplies available. To register please come to Tooele City Hall (90 North Main Street). Tooele Food Drop

The Tooele Food Drop will take place this Friday, Nov. 6 at the Deseret Peak Complex. Signup will start at 7 a.m. and food will be given out while supplies last. Ball park open for lunch

The Warr Memorial Ball Park will be open for lunch Saturday, Nov. 7 for the pheasant hunt. Erda burgers, chili, brownies, pop, etc. will be sold from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Library

Book sale

Friends of the Library announce an exciting book sale to be held in the community room of the Tooele City Library on Nov. 13, 14 and 17. On Friday the hours will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a large selection of books to choose from because the library staff have been busy “weeding the shelves” and have donated the books to the Friends. Hardbacks will be $.50 and paperbacks will be two for a quarter. Because of needing a place to store these books, it is necessary to close the bookstore until the sale. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get some great bargains.

Library activities

Nov. 3 will be the beginning of our “Pop open a good Book” theme. Our “Discover Fun” and “Writing Fun” will begin on the 3rd as well. KUED’s 17th annual reading marathon runs Nov. 4-27. Get your form at the library or www.kued.org/reading. Nov. 10 children ages 6 to 14 can learn how to make butter at 4 p.m. Nov. 11 the library will be closed for Veteran’s Day.” Movies @ your Tooele City Library” is scheduled on Thursday Nov. 12 at 4:30 p.m. and will be an action packed film. This movie is rated PG.

Parent signatures for Internet

Beginning Nov. 1, patrons 17 years of age and under can use the Internet and computers only with a parent’s signature on file at the Tooele City Library. Call for details or visit the library.

Blood drive

Come and vote for Edward or Jacob at a special blood drive held at the Tooele City Library on Nov. 13. Anyone participating will have their name placed in a drawing for two tickets to the new movie “New Moon” being shown at Cinema 6.

Weekly story time

Remember children’s story time every Wednesday at 11 a.m. and children’s crafts each Friday from 3-5 p.m. Check with the library for any special story times or other special events. Preschool openings

SHS Federal Impact Survey

Federal Impact Survey were mailed home earlier this month. One federal form must be filled out for every student and returned to the high school. All forms must returned ASAP. If you did not receive an impact form in the mail we have posted it on our school Web site for you to down load. The address is stansburyhighschool.org.

Threats to the Constitution class

Basic welding skills

Adult Education

Get your high school diploma this year. All classes required for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, drivers’ education and English as a second language are available. St. Marguerite’s Council of Catholic Women will be having its monthly breakfast this Sunday, Nov. 8 after the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. mass. All are welcome to come and enjoy a fresh hot breakfast. Cost is $6 for full breakfast and $3 for half breakfast, includes coffee and juice or milk.

Bar J Wranglers performance

Bar J Wranglers will be presenting a concert in Grantsville on Nov. 19 and 20. Tickets are on sale now and are available at Macey’s in Tooele, Hale Oil and Circle K in Grantsville. Proceeds are used to promote FFA leadership development activities.

Pioneer Valley Chamber Ensemble

Auditions are open for the Pioneer Valley Chamber Ensemble co-directed by Pamela Dale and Betta Nash. The ensemble primarily performs classical music, and rehearses Thursdays 7:30-9:30 p.m. in Tooele. Current need is for alto, tenor, and bass voices; also chamber orchestra players. Volunteer opportunity

Rocky Mountain Care Foundation, a nonprofit organization is looking for volunteers in Tooele. Our volunteers provide respite care, friendly visits, conversation, light household chores, and other needs to terminally ill patients who are on our hospice services. Interfaith Summit

Tooele County Relief Services is hosting an Interfaith Summit on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. The forum will be a discussion on poverty issues in Tooele County, and the identification of ways that faith and community groups can work together to alleviate hardships for local families and individuals. Drive Away Hunger

Miller Motorsports Park is sponsoring a Drive Away Hunger event on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at MMP. Fans can drive their street cars for three laps behind a pace car on MMP’s world-class 4.5-mile racetrack in exchange for a donation of non-perishable food items to the Utah Food Bank. Additional three-lap outings can be purchased for $20 each. All proceeds go to Utah Food Bank. Passengers are allowed but must wear seat belts. Black Tie Blue Jeans fundraiser

Tooele County Children’s Justice Center will hold their annual Black Tie Blue Jeans Fundraiser at the Deseret Peak Convention Center on Nov. 7. The Friends Board of the CJC are looking for donations and investments for the fundraiser: game table sponsor for $100, auction item, monetary donation, etc. For more information contact the CJC Friends Board at 843-3340.

Elks

Murder mystery dinner

On Friday, Nov. 13 come on out for a night of fun. The Elks is hosting a murder mystery dinner. Prime rib dinner will be served along with a fun filled show hosted by Hunt Mysteries. Show starts at 7:30 p.m., tickets are $35 a person. Invite your friends and family to the Elks and be part of the murder investigation. Tickets available in the social quarters of the Elks Lodge.

The Lodge is doing $5 Monday night dinners. Don’t worry about cooking on Monday nights, come to the Moose and enjoy some great homemade food and watch a football game.

Saturday night rib-eye steak and salmon dinners for members and their guests. Members get a free dinner in their birthday month.

Seniors Helping Seniors

The Diamond Lil’s Red Hatters want to form a group called Seniors Helping Seniors. Do you know of a friend, neighbor or relative to proud or unable to receive help from other community relief sources? There are seniors living among us who must choose whether to eat or buy their medication. We want to help. If you know of someone please call Marilou 435-249-0341. We will be discreet.

Tooele County Historical Society

The Tooele County Society will feature talented Gaye Shields at our Nov. 10 meeting at 7 p.m. Her presentation will feature pioneer music of the past and will showcase our present music renditions. Our meetings are held in the basement of the Pioneer Museum at 47 E. Vine Street, enter at the back door. Guests are welcome. If you want to become a member the dues are $5 a year.

Old Lincoln Highway sign

The Tooele County Historical Society has recently made a loan agreement with the Utah State Historical Society to display an old Lincoln Highway sign that was on the border of Utah and Nevada. This unique sign is on display at the Pioneer Museum and can be seen right after our Tooele County Historical meeting on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.

Historical books available

Tooele County Historical Society’s books will be available to purchase at our Nov. 10 meeting. “The History of Tooele County Volume II” is $25, “The Mining, Smelting and Railroading in Tooele” is $15 and we also have eight note cards depicting four different pioneer buildings for $4. Cub Scout roundtable

Join us for Cub Scout Leader Roundtable on Nov. 5, 7:30 p.m. at the Tooele Jr. High. We accept all types of Cub Scouting leader positions each month and provide helps and hints for dens and packs. Join us and share your ideas while getting ideas and help from other leaders. This training is a super way to learn more about cub scouting while getting ideas to use for den meetings, pack meetings, or helping on a Cub committee. Diabetes classes

A free in depth diabetes class series is being offered on Tuesday afternoons from 1-3:30 p.m. It is sponsored by Animas Diabetes company and Eileen DeLeeuw, MS,RD,CDE. Caregiver conference

All current or potential caregivers of an elderly spouse or loved one should plan to attend the 6th Annual Caregiver Conference on Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tooele Senior Citizens Center, 59 E. Veterans Day ceremony

Veterans Day Ceremony will be held on Nov. 11 in the Dow James Building located at 438 West 400 North, Tooele, at 11 a.m. Breakfast served from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Colonel William King of Dugway Proving Ground will be the guest speaker.

VA benefits

Dino Genco from the American Legion, Salt Lake City will be in your area to assist individual Veterans in understanding and applying for VA benefits. This is a free service to all Veterans. Dino will be at the Department of Workforce Services center 305 N. Main Street, Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 12-12:30 p.m. (Please note time changes.) Please bring the following documents so that we may better serve you: DD form 214, marriage/divorce papers, birth/adoption/death certificates and children’s social security numbers. Program openings

Tooele County Aging has openings in an alternative, income-based program designed to help seniors remain independent. CNAs help keep them in their homes safely, provide personal care, do house keeping and run errands. If interested please contact Jolene Shields at 843-4104 or 4105.

Senior Circle

Be part of the circle and join your senior friends! You only have to be 50 and the cost is $15 per year for a single and $27 for a couple. Stretching, toning, chair exercises, etc. Free for members. Breakfast Buddies meets Friday, Nov. 6, 9 a.m. at Jim’s Restaurant, Dutch treat. Wellness Supper on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. in MWMC classrooms, learn about recycling and our environmental health. Light supper served. RSVPs required.
