Family Halloween carnival

Together With Youth is excited to announce the 19th annual Family Halloween Carnival. The carnival will be on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 1-4 p.m. at the Dow James Building (438 W. 400 N.) There will be food, games, fortune telling, cookie decorating, a costume parade, and much, much, more. The cost is one can of food to be donated to the Tooele Food Bank. Come enjoy the fun. This is a drug and violence free activity.

Spooky Hallows

Spooky Hallows at the Wigwam on the south end of Tooele just before the Settlement Canyon entrance will be open on Oct. 23 and 24 from 7-10 p.m. Cost is $1 or a can of food. All proceeds benefit the Tooele Food Bank.

Car shows

Tooele Kingsmen will host free car shows at Dairy Delight in Tooele at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22 and Thursday, Oct. 29. All auto enthusiasts are invited to enter. All are invited to attend.

Annual candlelight vigil

The annual candlelight vigil will be held Thursday, Oct. 22. We will meet at Jana’s Java (402 N. Main, Tooele) at 6:30 p.m. The walk will proceed to Veterans Park. Everyone who has been a survivor of domestic violence, knows someone who is a victim of domestic violence or is interested in learning more about preventing domestic violence is welcome.

Family history center fair

The Tooele Family History Center at 751 East 520 North will be having their annual fair Nov. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Forty classes including, researching family names, pedigree software and computer basics will be taught. 2010 Reflections calendar

Reflections by Cindy is excited to announce the Reflections Calendar for 2010. The inaugural calendar features images of local children and all of profits from calendar sales are being donated to Tooele Valley Community Cooperative. Pet costume party

3D archery league

A 3D indoor animal target archery league starts Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at Deseret Peak Complex indoor arena through February. It’s sponsored by the Stansbury Oquirrh Bowmen and the Tooele County Deseret Peak Complex. All levels of shooters welcome. NFC month

National Family Caregivers Month (NFC Month) — observed every November — is a nationally recognized month that seeks to draw attention to the many challenges facing family caregivers, advocate for stronger public policy to address family caregiving issues, and raise awareness about community programs that support family caregivers. A family caregiver is defined as someone who cares for a chronically ill, disabled or elderly loved one. During NFC Month reach out to a family caregiver you know, whether a neighbor, relative, co-worker, or friend and offer them a helping hand.

Grantsville

Halloween carnival

There will be a community carnival on Thursday, Oct. 29 at Grantsville City Park on Cherry Street. Please join us from 1-4 p.m. for games, prizes, crafts and treats. We have a bounce house this year and will be holding a costume contest at 2:30 p.m. We will be selling popcorn, cotton candy, drinks and candy for $.50 a piece. School is out this day so remember to come dressed up and have lots of fun. Admission is free with a can of food that we will be donating to the Tooele Food Bank. Carnival is sponsored by Girl Scout troop 1123, Sweet Jumps, Tooele Transcript Bulletin and Grantsville Jr. High School.

Financial workshop

Grantsville West Stake invites those 18 and older to attend an evening designed to help you be prepared for the economic trends we currently face. Please join us Friday, Oct. 30 from 7-9 p.m. at the Grantsville West Stake center where topics on career development, retirement planning, get out of debt, coupons and year supply budgeting and basic budgeting will be discussed. Congratulations to our first ever homecoming royalty for Stansbury High: Queen is Jessica Lords, 1st Attendant is Seini Tautua’a, 2nd Attendant is Myranda Shumway and Miss Congeniality is Leia Miller. These ladies did an awesome job representing our Stallions all week long during the various activities.

GHS football fan fest

Every home game the Grantsville High School football team will be having a Friday Night Fan Fest at 5 p.m. including this Friday’s game against Ben Lomond. There will be live music, food, games, face painting and drawings. Wear your Cowboy gear to win prizes. Little league players wearing this year’s jersey will get in free when accompanied by a parent. Performances by the GHS cheerleaders and Larietts and a DJ will be playing music. A portion of the parking lot will be open for true tailgating. Halloween benefit concert

Trick or Treat a Halloween Benefit Concert will be presented at Tooele High School auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. Orchestras from high school through junior high and elementary will perform Halloween-themed music, wearing Halloween costumes is a treat for both eyes and ears. Suggested donation is $5 per person or $20 per family, and all proceeds will benefit Tooele High School orchestra students; going to reduce the cost of travel to a national festival in California, next spring. There will also be concessions and raffle items.

Fall/Halloween concert

Grantsville school’s chorus and orchestra present a Fall/Halloween Concert on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 7 p.m. at the Grantsville Jr. High School, featuring students from 5th through 12th grade including GHS Orchestra and Show Choir. Family and friends welcome. Cost is $4 adults/$3 students.

Stallion 5K Stampede

Get Spooked at the Stallion 5K Stampede. Everyone is invited to run this inaugural race at Stansbury High School on Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. Costumes for participants are encouraged. Children may run a 1/2 mile race around the track following the 5K. Medals will be awarded to the top runners in select age groups and awards for costumes. The Tooele Family Center is offering a free six-week workshop for parents and children four years of age and older who are entering kindergarten in the fall of 2010 to help prepare them for school. Bar J Wranglers will be presenting a concert in Grantsville on Nov. 19 and 20. Tickets are on sale now and are available at Macey’s in Tooele, Hale Oil and Circle K in Grantsville. Proceeds are used to promote FFA leadership development activities.

Pioneer Valley Chamber Ensemble

Auditions are open for the Pioneer Valley Chamber Ensemble co-directed by Pamela Dale and Betta Nash. The ensemble primarily performs classical music, and rehearses Thursdays 7:30-9:30 p.m. in Tooele. Current need is for alto, tenor, and bass voices; also chamber orchestra players. Turkey food boxes

To sign up for Thanksgiving Turkey Food Boxes 2009, come in to the Community Resource Building, 38 S. Main Street. The county food bank will have an open registration beginning Oct. 26 through Nov. 5. You must come in person, no phone applications will be taken. Hours will be the same as operating hours posted on our doors. No exceptions will be made. Many new households are needing assistance. Anyone who has received holiday dinners in the previous year will be considered, if the supply of donations is sufficient. There are Thanksgiving dinner plans in the planning process so that all can enjoy a holiday meal. Information will be given out as provided to the food bank from organizations participating in this event.

Black Tie Blue Jeans fundraiser

Tooele County Children’s Justice Center will hold their annual Black Tie Blue Jeans Fundraiser at the Deseret Peak Convention Center on Nov. 7. The Friends Board of the CJC are looking for donations and investments for the fundraiser: game table sponsor for $100, auction item, monetary donation, etc. For more information contact the CJC Friends Board at 843-3340.

Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering an emergency food pantry and clothing closet to meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs is welcome. Murder mystery dinner

On Friday, Nov. 13 come on out for a night of fun. The Elks is hosting a murder mystery dinner. Prime rib dinner will be served along with a fun filled show hosted by Hunt Mysteries. Show starts at 7:30 p.m., tickets are $35 a person. Invite your friends and family to the Elks and be part of the murder investigation. Tickets available in the social quarters of the Elks Lodge.

Carnival postponed

The 4-H carnival that was schedule for Wednesday, Oct. 21 has been postponed. It will be rescheduled at a yet to be determined date.

WDBCH meeting

The October meeting of the West Desert Back Country Horsemen will be held on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Tooele County Courthouse. Dr. Roundy will provide a guest lecture on Pigeon Fever, followed by our regular meeting. Non WD BCHU members are invited to attend Dr. Roundy’s lecture also. We will discuss the 2010 calendar. Special Olympics

The Tooele County Giants, Special Olympics team, is starting practice for their upcoming competition. Anyone interested in bowling may join the fun. We practice every Saturday at 9 a.m. at All Star Bowling Lanes in Tooele behind Wal-Mart. The Healing Hearts

The Healing Hearts is a free group for families who have ever lost a child, delivered a stillborn or had a miscarriage. Meet with other families that have suffered a loss. An LDS Pornography Addiction Recovery Support group meeting will be held every Friday evening starting at 7:30 p.m. in the High Council room of the Stansbury Stake Center, 417 E.
