Tooele

Family history center fair

The Tooele Family History Center at 751 East 520 North will be having their annual fair Nov. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Forty classes including researching family names, pedigree software and computer basics will be taught. 3D archery league

A 3D indoor animal target archery league starts Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at Deseret Peak Complex indoor arena through February. It’s sponsored by the Stansbury Oquirrh Bowmen and the Tooele County Deseret Peak Complex. All levels of shooters welcome. NFC month

National Family Caregivers Month (NFC Month) — observed every November — is a nationally recognized month that seeks to draw attention to the many challenges facing family caregivers, advocate for stronger public policy to address family care giving issues, and raise awareness about community programs that support family caregivers. A family caregiver is defined as someone who cares for a chronically ill, disabled or elderly loved one. During NFC Month reach out to a family caregiver you know, whether a neighbor, relative, co-worker, or friend and offer them a helping hand.

Medical park open house

The new NorthPointe Medical Park, located at 2356 North 400 East (buildings A &B) will be hosting a public open house this Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 4-6 p.m. The NorthPointe Medical Park is a new state of the art medical facility with services including: family practice medicine, orthopedics and sports medicine, podiatry, radiologic imaging, physical therapy, pediatrics, home health and lab services, optometry, ear, nose, & throat specialists, and a sleep study center. Self guided tours, information, prizes, and refreshments are available to the public free of charge.

KDK9’s obedience class

KDK9’s Basic Obedience Class for all ages of dogs and handlers will start a six-week class starting Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. Classes at Cal Ranch, $89 per dog. One free training lead included. Week one — dog psychology (no dogs, two hour class). Weeks 2-6 — learning the basics (one hour class). Private training for aggressive and/or special issues also available. Proceeds help support KDK9’s Search and Rescue Dogs and the Animal Concepts Foundation, both non-profit. For more info and registration call: 435-837-2134.

Grantsville

Halloween carnival

There will be a community carnival on Thursday, Oct. 29 at Grantsville City Park on Cherry Street. Please join us from 1-4 p.m. for games, prizes, crafts and treats. We have a bounce house this year and will be holding a costume contest at 2:30 p.m. We will be selling popcorn, cotton candy, drinks and candy for $.50 a piece. School is out this day so remember to come dressed up and have lots of fun. Admission is free with a can of food that we will be donating to the Tooele Food Bank. Carnival is sponsored by Girl Scout troop 1123, Sweet Jumps, Tooele Transcript Bulletin and Grantsville Jr. High School.

Financial workshop

Grantsville West Stake invites those 18 and older to attend an evening designed to help you be prepared for the economic trends we currently face. Please join us Friday, Oct. 30 from 7-9 p.m. at the Grantsville West Stake center where topics on career development, retirement planning, get out of debt, coupons and year supply budgeting and basic budgeting will be discussed. These are 45 minute classes. You will have the opportunity to attend two of the five classes. Refreshments will be served. Grantsville Irrigation Company

Grantsville Irrigation will be shutting down the system Wednesday, Oct. 28. Metered users are allotted 250,000 gallons per share. Please be aware: if arrangements have not been made for extra shares a fee will be assessed based on the overage. If you are unsure of your meter usage, please contact the office at 884-3451.

Trick or Treat week

Oct. 27-31 we will have Trick or Treat week. Anyone in a costume can go trick or treating at the Tooele City Library.

Parent signatures for Internet

Beginning Nov. 1, patrons 17 years of age and under can use the Internet and computers only with a parent’s signature on file at the Tooele City Library. Call for details or visit the library.

Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library have many, many books in their bookstore — paperback and hardbacks. The hardbacks will be on sale for the next month for only $.50. Come in and browse on Tuesday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or on Fridays 1-7 p.m. All proceeds are used for the Tooele City Library.

Sock out your fines

Blood drive

SHS orchestra concert

The Stansbury High School orchestra will have their first fall concert performance on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Stansbury High School auditorium. The orchestra will be performing: The Barber of Seville, Danse Macabre, Night on Bald Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean and other selections.

SHS Federal Impact Survey

Federal Impact Survey were mailed home earlier this month. One federal form must be filled out for every student and returned to the high school. All forms must returned ASAP. If you did not receive an impact form in the mail we have posted it on our school Web site for you to down load. The address is stansburyhighschool.org.

Mark your calendars and plan to attend the Stansbury High Community Council meeting to be held Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at the high school.

THS band Friends and Family

The Tooele High School marching band and Majestix senior tribute night “Friends and Family” will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. on the THS football field. They will be performing the field show “Pyramids of Egypt.” Bring your family and bundle up.

GHS play rescheduled

The Grantsville High School production of “Little Shop of Horrors” has been rescheduled due to illness. The new dates will be Wednesday, Oct. 28, Thursday, Oct. 29, Friday, Oct. 30 and Monday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.

Halloween

West Elementary would like to invite you to their 2nd annual Halloween carnival on Oct. 28 from 5-7 p.m. Trick or treat hallway, spook alley, cake walk, games, food, fun and more. Fall/Halloween concert

Grantsville school’s chorus and orchestra present a Fall/Halloween Concert on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 7 p.m. at the Grantsville Jr. High School, featuring students from 5th through 12th grade including GHS Orchestra and Show Choir. Family and friends welcome. Cost is $4 adults/$3 students.

Adult Education

Get your high school diploma this year. All classes required for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, drivers’ education and English as a second language are available. English as a Second Language

Great musicians wanted

Bar J Wranglers performance

Bar J Wranglers will be presenting a concert in Grantsville on Nov. 19 and 20. Tickets are on sale now and are available at Macey’s in Tooele, Hale Oil and Circle K in Grantsville. Proceeds are used to promote FFA leadership development activities.

Pioneer Valley Chamber Ensemble

Auditions are open for the Pioneer Valley Chamber Ensemble co-directed by Pamela Dale and Betta Nash. The ensemble primarily performs classical music, and rehearses Thursdays 7:30-9:30 p.m. in Tooele. Current need is for alto, tenor, and bass voices; also chamber orchestra players. Interfaith Summit

Tooele County Relief Services is hosting an Interfaith Summit on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. The forum will be a discussion on poverty issues in Tooele County, and the identification of ways that faith and community groups can work together to alleviate hardships for local families and individuals. Drive Away Hunger

Miller Motorsports Park is sponsoring a Drive Away Hunger event on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at MMP. Fans can drive their street cars for three laps behind a pace car on MMP’s world-class 4.5-mile racetrack in exchange for a donation of non-perishable food items to the Utah Food Bank. Additional three-lap outings can be purchased for $20 each. All proceeds go to Utah Food Bank. Passengers are allowed but must wear seat belts. Black Tie Blue Jeans fundraiser

Tooele County Children’s Justice Center will hold their annual Black Tie Blue Jeans Fundraiser at the Deseret Peak Convention Center on Nov. 7. Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering an emergency food pantry and clothing closet to meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs is welcome. The food pantry is available for emergency needs. Hours of operation are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. We are located at 580 S. Main St. For information call 882-2048.

Elks

Murder mystery dinner

On Friday, Nov. 13 come on out for a night of fun. The Elks is hosting a murder mystery dinner. Prime rib dinner will be served along with a fun filled show hosted by Hunt Mysteries. Show starts at 7:30 p.m., tickets are $35 a person. Invite your friends and family to the Elks and be part of the murder investigation. Tickets available in the social quarters of the Elks Lodge.

The Wrathall Clan with Corrie Anderson the chairman will be doing steaks on Friday, Oct. 30. Bob Fox will be doing the cooking and steak, shrimp, halibut and chicken dinners will be served from 6:30-8:45 p.m. Come out and support the Aerie and Auxiliary. Members and guests invited.

Halloween party

On Saturday, Oct. 31, there will be an adult Halloween party. Get your costumes together, prizes will be given to the best costumes and Kickin’ Karaoke with Rob Barney will be there to entertain. Food will be served.

Cub Scout cake sale

Cub Scout pack 4461 is holding a cake sale in conjunction with their Space Derby on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. in the 27th Ward building, 180 S. Coleman.
