Grantsville firefighters deserve praise

Thank you to my family, friends, neighbors and those who have supported my campaign. I greatly appreciate each one of you. It is because I care about Grantsville, our community and its citizens that I chose to run for city council. It is unfortunate that due to deplorable political tactics the entire Grantsville Fire Department has had to endure so much ridicule over the last three months because people will not take the time to educate themselves with facts instead of rumor and hearsay. I would like to remind the community of the services they provide to us — a sense of security and peace of mind among them. They make donations to different community activities and causes; support Eagle projects, burn centers and burn camps; help those less fortunate; help with Christmas and other needs; put on water day and fire prevention week for our school children; as well as provide service as first responders. On Independence Day, they provide us a place for the flag raising ceremony and the fireworks we all enjoy. Without the services they provide, the community would suffer in many ways. They risk life and limb every time they respond to a fire. Firefighters and their families are a unique group of people. They are community-minded and make personal sacrifices to serve others. They deserve nothing less than our respect and appreciation for their dedication to the community.
