Routine home inspections sometimes yield funny moments

This week I thought it would be fun to tickle the visual senses and show you a few scenarios that I ran across this past month while performing inspections. There are times I encounter situations that make me scratch my head and wonder what in the world was this person thinking. Other times I just laugh myself blue. The following are actual issues I have encountered.

In this picture we see that the cold air return was installed on the wall about a foot away from the heat supply line registers. This worked great to have the hot air from the furnace flow immediately back into the system.

Here we have the drain line that is connected to the pressure relief valve of the water heater that was installed upward. This was one of those “What was this guy thinking?” moments.

Finally, this is from a do-it-yourself plumber who didn’t know the difference between an ABS waste line and an old auto radiator hose.

I hope you were able to get a good laugh from all this (or at least a chuckle). I know I did.
