Contest winner

Joe Deavila was last week’s winner of the Tooele Transcript-Bulletin football pick’em. Deavila finished with a 6-2 record along with four others but was closer to the final score of the TCU at BYU game. This week’s contest is already under way with the picks appearing in today’s edition of the paper. Junior Jazz

The Tooele Jr. Jazz youth basketball program will hold its annual registration days for the Tooele, Stansbury, Erda, Stockton and Lake Point areas on Nov. 5 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Nov. 12 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Nov. 14 from 10 .m. to 2 p.m. This year’s registration will be held at Quality Ford on Main Street in Tooele. The Jr. Jazz program provides a fun recreational game experience with opportunities to attend a Utah Jazz game and spend an evening with a Utah Jazz player. Jr. Stallion Basketball

Jr. Stallion Basketball registration is currently taking place. All basketball players (male/female), grades K-8th who attend Stansbury High boundary schools may register. Jr. Stallions will consist of 10 Saturday sessions and is intended to progressively teach individual and team basketball fundamentals. Cost: $50. Grantsville Junior Jazz

Grantsville Junior Jazz is going to have their sign-ups on Nov. 5 and 12 from 5-7 p.m. and on Nov. 14 from 5-8 p.m. All sign-ups will be at Williams Family Video located at 124 W. Main in Grantsville. Registration is for Grantsville residents or those who attend Grantsville schools. Archery League

The indoor 3D indoor animal target league at Deseret Peak Complex will start on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. The league is sponsored by Stansbury Oquirrh Bowmen and Tooele County Deseret Peak Complex. The league will continue every Thursday night through February. All level of shooters are invited to participate. For more information call Bryan Warr at (435) 882-6795.

Sportsman permits

Applications for next year’s most prized Utah hunting permits 2010 sportsman permits will be available by Nov. 2. Only Utah residents may apply for sportsman permits. One sportsman permit is offered for each of the following species: Desert bighorn ram, Rocky Mountain bighorn ram, buck deer, buck pronghorn, bull elk, bull moose, hunter’s choice bison, hunter’s choice Rocky Mountain goat, black bear, cougar, sandhill crane and wild turkey. If you draw a sportsman permit, the dates you can hunt vary. But in most cases, they’re longer than the regular season dates. You can also hunt on almost any unit in Utah that’s open to hunting the species you drew a permit for. You can apply for a sportsman permit starting Nov. 2 at wildlife.utah.gov. Applications must be submitted no later than 11 p.m. on Nov. 19 to be entered in the draw for permits. Draw results will be posted by Dec. 10. If you draw a permit, you’ll also receive a letter in the mail.

Jazz lose season opener

The Utah Jazz started their season in Denver where they lost to the host Nuggets 114-105. Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer led the Jazz with double-doubles. Williams scored 28 points with 13 assists while Boozer put up 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Nuggets’ Carmelo Anthony led all scores with 30 points in their win. The Jazz will have their first home game on Friday when they play host to the Los Angeles Clippers with a 7 p.m. tip-off time.
